Payment service providers in Malaysia
Malaysia's online checkout is a mix of bank redirects, QR and super-app wallets, with cards strongest among urban shoppers. This page lists {count} payment gateways and payin payout providers that accept Malaysian ringgit (MYR) or serve Malaysian merchants.
Local payment methods in Malaysia
- FPX: real-time online banking payments from all major Malaysian banks — a must-have for e-commerce and bill payments.
- DuitNow: national instant transfers by phone, ID or account number, and DuitNow QR accepted across banks and wallets.
- E-wallets: Touch 'n Go eWallet, GrabPay, Boost, ShopeePay.
- Cards: Visa, Mastercard and MyDebit; BNPL is growing for retail.
Regulation
Payment systems, e-money issuers and merchant acquirers are regulated by Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) under the Financial Services Act; registered merchant acquirers must be approved by BNM. Digital asset exchanges fall under the Securities Commission. Most forms of gambling are restricted for Muslims and online gambling is largely prohibited, which limits local acquiring for gaming.
Verticals and cross-border
Malaysia is often bundled into SEA coverage alongside Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines. Cross-border e-commerce, education, travel and SaaS are typical; high-risk merchants (forex, gaming) usually look for offshore structures and alternative pay-in. See high-risk merchants and cross-border.
How to choose a Malaysian PSP
- FPX bank coverage and success rates, DuitNow QR support
- Which wallets are live, and wallet refund rules
- Settlement in MYR vs USD, settlement timing
- Payouts to bank accounts via DuitNow / IBG
