Overview
A Bank Rakyat payment terminal comes from the POS programme of Bank Rakyat, a Malaysian bank operated by Bank Kerjasama Rakyat Malaysia Berhad that offers merchants card acquiring with published pricing. Merchants accept debit and credit cards and contactless payments, and can offer shoppers instalments.
Methods
- debit cards;
- credit cards;
- contactless payments;
- instalments (Easy Payment Plan, EPP).
Pricing
The bank publishes its MDR, the merchant fee per transaction, for POS terminals:
- debit cards: 0.50%;
- credit cards: 1.50%;
- EPP instalments: 2.50% to 5.00% depending on tenure.
There is no setup fee and no deposit. The monthly terminal rental is waived if the merchant holds a current or savings account (CASA) with the same bank. Current promotional terms apply.
Onboarding
A merchant applies through a branch or QR2E and submits an application with supporting business documents. After approval the merchant signs an offer letter, and the bank arranges installation and training. A separate acquiring contact is available.
Who it suits
Retailers, service businesses and sellers of high-ticket goods in Malaysia: instalments help sell large purchases, while the low debit MDR keeps everyday sales costs down.
