Local payment methods in Singapore
- Cards and wallets: Visa, Mastercard, Amex, with Apple Pay, Google Pay and GrabPay widely used.
- PayNow: instant transfers by phone number, UEN or QR (SGQR), built on FAST.
- FAST and GIRO for bank transfers, payroll and recurring debits.
- NETS for domestic debit and in-store payments.
Regulation: the Payment Services Act
The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) licenses payment firms as money-changing licensees, standard payment institutions (SPI) or major payment institutions (MPI) depending on activity and volume, including digital payment token (DPT) services. MAS applies strict AML/CFT expectations, and DPT providers serving only overseas clients face tight rules. See legal in Singapore.
Cross-border and regional coverage
Merchants often use a Singapore-based PSP to reach Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines and Vietnam through local APMs, and to hold multi-currency balances. Remittance and payout providers in Singapore serve marketplaces, freelancers and B2B suppliers across APAC. See cross-border and payouts.
