Payment service providers in Ghana
Ghana is one of West Africa's most active mobile money markets: MTN MoMo dominates, and wallets are interoperable with each other and with bank accounts. This page lists {count} payment gateways and payin payout providers working with Ghanaian cedi (GHS).
Local payment methods in Ghana
- Mobile money: MTN Mobile Money, Telecel Cash (formerly Vodafone Cash) and AirtelTigo Money; payments are approved with a USSD or app prompt.
- Bank transfers via GhIPSS instant pay and mobile money interoperability.
- Cards, mainly Visa and Mastercard, plus GhanaPay and QR payments.
- E-wallets and crypto for remittances and P2P.
Regulation
Payment service providers and electronic money issuers are licensed by the Bank of Ghana, with separate licence categories for enhanced PSPs, medium PSPs and payment and technology solution providers. Betting operators are licensed by the Gaming Commission of Ghana. An electronic transfer levy applies to some mobile money transactions, which affects pricing.
Betting, remittances and payouts
Sports betting, remittances, savings and lending apps are large verticals. B2C payouts to MoMo wallets are needed for withdrawals, loan disbursements and gig-worker pay — check payout limits per wallet tier and the float you must keep with the provider. See payouts and mobile money PSPs.
How to choose a Ghanaian PSP
- Coverage of all three networks, not just MTN
- Prompt success rate and callback reliability
- Fees for collections vs disbursements, including levies
- Settlement in GHS or USD, and FX conversion
