Payment processing in Spain
Spain is a card-first e-commerce market with a strong local mobile payment layer. Most online purchases are paid with debit and credit cards, while Bizum — the bank-backed instant mobile payment system linked to a phone number — has moved from person-to-person transfers into online checkout. SEPA transfers and direct debit are standard for subscriptions and B2B. Banks and payment institutions are supervised by the Banco de España, securities and crypto marketing by the CNMV, and online gambling is licensed by the DGOJ (Directorate General for the Regulation of Gambling). {count} providers on this page declare Spain coverage.
What Spanish merchants look for
- Local acquiring: approval rates on Spanish cards, 3-D Secure (PSD2 SCA) exemptions and tokenisation for recurring payments.
- Bizum online: whether the PSP supports Bizum as a checkout method and for refunds.
- SEPA tools: SEPA transfers and direct debit for subscriptions and invoices.
- Settlement: EUR, frequency, rolling reserve.
- Licensing: a Spanish licence or an EU passport; confirm the contracting entity.
iGaming, forex and high-risk
Spain has a regulated online gambling market: operators need a DGOJ licence, and payment providers serving them must follow Spanish rules on player verification and advertising. Forex/CFD, dating, nutra and subscription businesses should check each PSP's risk policy and browse high-risk merchants.
