BitPay

Overview

BitPay is a crypto payment processor for businesses and one of the oldest in the field: it states that it has operated since 2011 and is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. It gives merchants a crypto checkout and lets them accept payments from more than 100 wallets and receive revenue in fiat in a bank account, usually the next day.

Products and methods

Customers pay in Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana and stablecoins. The service covers online payments on a website, invoices sent by email, in-store payments and crypto payouts. Products include BitPay Checkout, BitPay Send for mass crypto payouts, auto-settlement in USD, EUR or GBP, and a wallet and card. Merchants connect through ready-made integrations or the API.

Settlement and pricing

Daily fiat settlement to bank accounts is offered, and crypto or mixed settlement is also available. The fee is 1% to 2% plus USD 0.25 per paid invoice, depending on monthly volume.

Licensing

The company states an NMLS number (1496848) and a New York DFS virtual currency business licence. The European operator is BitPay B.V. in the Netherlands.

Coverage and clients

Markets include the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and a long list of European countries; settlement availability depends on the country and product. Verticals include luxury retail, travel, airlines, automotive, hosting and e-commerce, and the company names Microsoft, AMC Theatres, airBaltic and Newegg among its clients.
