Local payment methods in Mexico
- SPEI: Banxico's real-time interbank transfers to an 18-digit CLABE. Merchants issue a reference CLABE per customer for automatic reconciliation; SPEI is also the standard payout rail — see bank transfers.
- OXXO and other cash networks: the customer pays a voucher at a convenience store; confirmation is not instant.
- Cards: debit and credit, with meses sin intereses (interest-free installments) driving average ticket.
- CoDi / DiMo and QR, e-wallets, and crypto for remittance and P2P.
Regulation
Banks and payment institutions are supervised by Banxico and the CNBV; fintech institutions (IFPE e-money issuers) are licensed under the Fintech Law. Online gambling operators need a permit from SEGOB. Expect KYC tied to RFC/CURP for some products. See legal in Mexico.
iGaming, betting and high-risk
Mexico is one of the larger LatAm iGaming markets. Operators look for SPEI pay-in with instant reconciliation, OXXO for unbanked players and fast SPEI withdrawals. Forex, nutra and other high-risk merchants should compare card approval rates and chargeback handling.
How to choose a Mexican PSP
- SPEI reference CLABE support and confirmation time
- OXXO voucher fees and expiry
- Card approval rate, 3DS, installment pricing
