Payment service providers in Canada
Canadian consumers split their spending between credit cards and Interac, the domestic debit network. This page lists {count} payment gateways, processors and payout providers that accept Canadian dollars (CAD) or onboard Canadian businesses.
Local payment methods in Canada
- Interac e-Transfer: bank-to-bank transfers by e-mail or phone, widely used for top-ups, P2P and iGaming deposits; also a common payout route.
- Interac Debit in-store and online, plus Visa, Mastercard and Amex cards.
- EFT / pre-authorised debits for subscriptions, rent and B2B — see ACH-style transfers.
- Crypto on- and off-ramps for regulated platforms.
Regulation
Money services businesses (including many payment processors and crypto platforms) register with FINTRAC. Payment service providers are also being brought under Bank of Canada supervision through the Retail Payment Activities Act. Gambling is provincial: Ontario runs a regulated iGaming market through iGaming Ontario and AGCO, while other provinces rely on their lottery corporations. See legal in Canada.
High-risk, iGaming and forex
Licensed Ontario operators can get domestic acquiring; offshore iGaming, forex and crypto merchants typically look for Interac-based pay-in through specialised providers. Ask about chargebacks on cards, recall risk on transfers, and source-of-funds checks. See high-risk merchants.
Choosing a Canadian PSP
- Interac coverage (e-Transfer, Online, Debit) and confirmation speed
- Card pricing (interchange-plus vs flat), FX markup for USD-priced goods
- Payout options: Interac e-Transfer, EFT, push-to-card
- Reserves, settlement frequency, CAD or USD settlement
