Payment processing in South Korea

South Korea is a card-heavy, mobile-first market with its own rules. Local customers pay with domestic cards issued by Korean card companies, with bank transfers to virtual accounts (a unique account number per order), and with super-app wallets such as KakaoPay, Naver Pay, Toss Pay and Samsung Pay. International Visa/Mastercard checkout works for cross-border sellers, but approval rates on Korean-issued cards are noticeably lower than with a local PG. This page lists {count} payment providers that declare KRW coverage.

What to look for in a Korean PSP

  • Local acquiring vs. cross-border: a registered Korean PG (under the Electronic Financial Transactions Act, supervised by the FSC/FSS) gives domestic card routing; offshore gateways usually rely on international schemes.
  • Virtual accounts and bank transfer: essential for high-ticket and repeat payments; check reconciliation speed and refund handling. See bank transfer in Korea.
  • Wallet coverage: KakaoPay, Naver Pay and Toss are often decisive for conversion — confirm which ones are actually live, see local APMs in Korea and cards in Korea.
  • Real-name verification: many flows require identity checks tied to a Korean phone number or bank account.
  • Settlement: KRW payout to a local account or conversion to USD/USDT; Korean FX reporting rules can add steps.

High-risk, iGaming and P2P

Online casino and most betting are restricted for residents, so offshore operators, forex brokers and crypto projects searching for a betting or casino payment gateway in South Korea typically end up with P2P processing through virtual accounts and bank transfers handled by teams in Korea. Ask providers about account freezes, daily limits per account and how disputes are resolved.
