E-wallets as a payment and payout method
Digital wallets store money or payment credentials and let customers pay without typing card details. There are two broad groups. Pass-through wallets such as Apple Pay and Google Pay tokenise a card, so the payment is still processed as a card transaction. Stored-value wallets hold their own balance — regional super-apps in Asia, Latin America and Africa, and international wallets popular in iGaming, forex and freelancing. This page lists e-wallet providers and PSPs that connect merchants to them.
Why accept e-wallets
- Conversion on mobile: one-tap payments with biometrics.
- Reach: in many Asian and LATAM markets wallets are used more than cards online.
- Payouts: stored-value wallets are a common way to send withdrawals and partner payments quickly.
- Lower dispute exposure for stored-value wallet payments compared with card-not-present.
Where wallets matter most
- Southeast Asia — Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia.
- East Asia — South Korea, China, Japan.
- South Asia — Bangladesh (bKash, Nagad), Pakistan.
- Turkey and LATAM, where local wallets sit next to bank transfers.
What to compare between e-wallet providers
- Which wallets are connected directly and which through another aggregator.
- Pay-in and payout fees, minimums, and whether payouts to the same wallet are supported.
- Settlement currency and timing; wallet top-up limits on the customer side.
- Allowed verticals: many wallets restrict gambling, adult or crypto.
- Integration: redirect, QR, deep link to the wallet app, H2H API.
