Google Pay in India

In India Google Pay (GPay) works as a UPI app: users link bank accounts and pay with handles such as @okaxis, @okhdfcbank, @okicici or @oksbi. It is one of the top UPI apps by transaction count together with PhonePe and Paytm. "Accepting Google Pay" for an Indian merchant therefore means accepting UPI payments that GPay users can complete quickly — it is a different product from Google Pay card tokenisation used in other countries (see Google Pay).

Payment flows for GPay users

UPI Intent: on mobile the checkout offers GPay and opens the app with the amount prefilled.
QR code: dynamic QR scanned by GPay on desktop or in-store.
Collect to an @ok-handle VPA, where supported by the provider and bank.
Payouts and refunds to the customer's bank account over IMPS or UPI.

What to check

Conversion of intent flows on GPay specifically; some providers show app-level stats.
Pay-in and payout fees, minimum volume, per-transaction and daily limits.
Settlement currency (INR or USDT), frequency and reserve.
Licensing model: payment aggregator, partner bank or P2P processing.
Handling of pending and failed transactions, refunds, and NPCI dispute timelines.
