Payments for marketplaces and platforms
A marketplace collects money from buyers and pays out to many sellers, hosts, freelancers or creators. That turns a simple checkout into a regulated flow: funds of third parties, seller onboarding, split settlement and payouts across countries. Platforms in this hub are looking for providers that support this model.
What marketplaces typically need
- Split payments — automatic division of each payment between seller and platform fee.
- Escrow or delayed payouts until delivery is confirmed — see escrow services.
- Seller onboarding with KYC/KYB built into the flow — KYC and KYB.
- Mass payouts to bank accounts, cards and wallets in many countries — payouts.
- Multi-currency collection and settlement — cross-border & FX.
Choosing a marketplace PSP
- Licensing model: does the provider hold funds under its own licence (payment facilitator, EMI) or do you need one? See payment licensing.
- Sub-merchant support: how many sellers, which countries, onboarding time.
- Payout coverage and cost per country and method.
- Dispute logic: who carries chargebacks — platform or seller.
- Reporting: per-seller statements and tax forms where required.
Specialised cases have their own hubs: travel and booking platforms, gaming item marketplaces, freelance and education platforms.
Using the page
Marketplaces post requests with their GEOs, number of sellers and payout volume; PSPs answer in the Requests tab or publish an offer on the offers board. If you are building a platform, post a request describing both pay-in and payout sides.
