What P2P platforms are
P2P crypto platforms are marketplaces where users trade directly with each other: one side posts an ad to buy or sell USDT (or other coins) for local currency, the other side responds, and the platform locks the crypto in escrow until the fiat payment is confirmed. Large exchanges run P2P desks, and there are regional platforms focused on specific currencies and payment methods.
Why payment businesses care
- Price discovery: P2P prices for USDT in local currency are a common benchmark for traders and teams.
- Liquidity: businesses source USDT for payouts or sell USDT settlements through verified P2P merchants.
- Recruitment: many P2P traders and exchange merchants build their history on these platforms.
- Local methods: P2P ads cover rails that formal exchangers often do not — SBP, UPI, PIX, mobile money and local bank transfers.
How to compare platforms
- Supported currencies and payment methods in your GEO.
- Fees: maker/taker fees for ads and orders, plus withdrawal fees.
- Escrow and disputes: how appeals work, response times and evidence required.
- Merchant programme: requirements for verified-merchant status (deposit, volume, KYC) and the benefits.
- Volume and depth: number of active ads and spreads in your currency pair.
- Regulatory status and availability in your country — some platforms restrict users from certain jurisdictions.
- API: availability of P2P ad and order APIs for automation.
Risks to keep in mind
Third-party payments, chargebacks on the fiat side and frozen bank accounts are the main P2P risks. Trade only with counterparties whose name matches the payment, keep evidence, and consider AML & KYT tools for wallet checks.
