What an APM provider does

APM stands for alternative payment methods — everything that is not an international card: local bank transfers, real-time payment systems, e-wallets, QR schemes, vouchers and mobile money. An APM provider (or alternative payment methods provider) aggregates many of these behind one API, so a merchant can show the methods customers actually use in each country without signing dozens of local contracts.

Why APMs matter by GEO

In many markets cards cover a minority of online payments. Examples from the countries on this page: India runs on UPI and netbanking (APM in India); Bangladesh on bKash and Nagad (APM in Bangladesh); Pakistan on JazzCash, Easypaisa and Raast (Pakistan); South Korea on local wallets and virtual accounts (Korea); Japan on konbini and bank transfers (Japan); Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania on mobile money (Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania); Nigeria on bank transfers and USSD (Nigeria).

How APM acceptance works

  • Redirect or hosted page: the customer is sent to the wallet or bank to approve.
  • Push/collect flows: a request is sent to the customer's app (UPI collect, mobile money STK push).
  • Reference-based payments: QR, virtual account or voucher number paid later — confirmation is asynchronous.

Payouts on the same rails are often available too, which matters for marketplaces, gaming and gig platforms.

Fees, settlement and limits

APM fees vary widely by country and method; some are flat, some percentage-based. Settlement can be local currency or converted to USD/EUR. Per-transaction limits are set by the scheme and the wallet. Chargebacks are rare, but refunds and disputes work differently on every method.

What to check

  • Exact list of methods per country, not "100+ APMs" in general.
  • Pay-in and payout support, success rates, time to confirmation.
  • Accepted verticals (iGaming, forex, crypto) and local licensing.
