Overview

inverid is a provider of mobile reading and cryptographic verification of NFC chips in biometric passports and ID cards. Founded in 2014, it is based in Enschede in the Netherlands, with an office in London.

How it works

The ReadID product reads the chip according to the ICAO 9303 standard. The company states that checking the issuing state's digital signature stored on the chip gives mathematical certainty that the document is genuine. Optical OCR and facial biometrics come from partners, and the service is delivered as SaaS or as an SDK.

Customers and reach

The stated customers include governments, with the UK Home Office named, and banks such as ING, Rabobank and ASB, as well as KYC orchestrators that embed chip reading into their own flows. Coverage is described as global, wherever chip-enabled documents are issued.

Commercial model

Inverid is sold as enterprise SaaS or an SDK licence. Prices are not disclosed. Companies assessing it usually check which document types the NFC reader supports, how it behaves on different phones and how it combines with a liveness check.
