Overview

Ethoca is a collaborative network of card-issuing banks and merchants, owned by Mastercard, built to prevent chargebacks. It was founded in 2005 in Toronto, with a presence in the United States, and the company says it connects more than 5,900 issuing banks worldwide.

Ethoca Alerts Alerts give a merchant early notice of a dispute from the issuing bank. According to the company, this stops fraudulent and customer-initiated disputes at the moment the cardholder contacts the bank. Pricing is a fee for each alert received.

Ethoca Consumer Clarity This product shows the merchant logo, exact address and a detailed digital receipt directly in the customer's banking app, with an instant refund request button. The company states that it removes a leading cause of friendly fraud: an unclear technical descriptor on the card statement. It is sold on a transactional or subscription tariff through Mastercard and partners.

Who it suits Target verticals include e-commerce, digital goods, gaming, travel, subscriptions and PSPs. Consumer Clarity is aimed at online and offline merchants alike. Alert volumes, fees and integration options depend on the contract and should be confirmed with the company or a Mastercard partner.
