Overview
PayPal is a US payments company founded in 1998 and headquartered in San Jose, California. In the chargeback management segment it offers the Disputes REST API and the Chargeback Protection programme, which handle buyer claims and chargebacks automatically.
Disputes API The API lets a merchant bring PayPal dispute handling straight into its ERP or payment orchestrator. Automated tracking and proof-of-fulfilment upload are among the listed capabilities, so shipping evidence can be sent without manual work in the dashboard. The company states that the API itself is free to use.
Chargeback Protection Chargeback Protection is a paid layer of full coverage for a 0.4% fee. It is aimed at e-commerce, marketplaces, digital goods and SaaS merchants, and the company says it works across 200+ markets worldwide.
Wider product line Beyond disputes, PayPal is an e-wallet and acceptance provider covering online checkout, in-store and POS acceptance, pay links, invoicing, payouts and fraud tools. Methods include the wallet, cards and BNPL. Top-ups by Visa or Mastercard cost 2.90% plus a fixed fee, and bank-transfer top-ups are free. Mass payouts cost 0.25 USD or 2% domestically and 2% internationally, capped at 20 USD.
Legal entity PayPal, Inc., United States.
