About

The Highrisk Merchant subreddit (r/Highrisk_Merchant) is a small Reddit board for merchants that mainstream acquirers turn away, and for the providers who serve them. Reserves, chargebacks, underwriting and gateway choice are the recurring themes.

What gets discussed

The best-known thread is an 18 April 2025 explainer on what a high-risk merchant account is and why a business lands on one. It walks through the constraints by vertical: forex, adult, nutraceuticals, gaming and CBD each hit different limits on processors and banks. Other posts compare experiences with PSP onboarding for businesses that standard providers treat as difficult.

Everything is member-written, so you get war stories and rough numbers rather than official rate cards. The board is public and readable without an account.

Why payments people read it

Activity here is older and thinner than on the bigger payments subreddits, which makes it more of an archive than a live feed. A merchant can see how peers described their business; a PSP can see which objections come up.

Payments angle

Threads on why forex, adult, nutraceutical, gaming and CBD merchants end up on high-risk accounts, and what reserves and underwriting look like for them.
