Overview
Paystack is a payment gateway and orchestrator for African businesses, founded in 2015 in Lagos and now part of Stripe. It handles online and in-person payments, recurring billing, invoicing and split payments between recipients, and the company says it processes more than half of online payments in Nigeria.
Products and methods - Smart routing across African banks, direct bank transfer and mobile money. - Split payments and automated payouts. - Visa, Mastercard, Verve and American Express, depending on the market. - M-PESA in Kenya, mobile money in Ghana, EFT in South Africa, plus USSD and QR.
Coverage and fees Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa and Kenya are live, while Cote d'Ivoire and Egypt are in private beta. Published fees as of 15 September 2026 are: - Ghana: 1.95%. - Kenya: local cards 2.9%, M-PESA 1.5%, international 3.8%. - Nigeria: local 1.5% plus NGN 100, with a stated waiver and a cap of NGN 2,000. - South Africa: local cards 2.9% plus ZAR 1 excluding VAT, EFT 2%.
Onboarding and industries Test mode is available before the compliance review, and documents depend on the country and business type. Betting, lotteries and financial services are allowed after review, though international payments are not available for betting, lotteries, gaming, crypto and some other businesses.
Legal entities Paystack Ghana LTD holds a PSP Enhanced licence from the Bank of Ghana, and Paystack Payments Kenya Limited is listed by the Central Bank of Kenya, licensed since 8 November 2022.
