Overview

Paygent is a payment gateway operating in Japan. It gives online stores access to the ways Japanese shoppers pay, from cards to cash at convenience stores.

Payment methods

  • bank cards;
  • convenience store payments, where the customer gets an order code and pays at the till of a nearby store;
  • bank transfer;
  • direct debit from the customer's account, handy for subscriptions and recurring bills.

Convenience store payment remains a notable channel in Japan, used by shoppers without cards and by those who prefer not to enter card details online.

Payouts

Settlement is tied to the close of each period. The standard timing is 9 business days after closing. An early option pays in 5 business days, or 6 if the close falls on a weekend. There are 2 to 4 closings per month. The cost of the early option should be confirmed separately.

Who it suits

The service is built for companies selling to Japanese customers, including foreign projects that want to support local payment habits. Acceptance fees are not published and are agreed at onboarding.
