Overview
Paycode Ghana is a biometric identity and digital payments platform for remote areas. Its smart cards and POS terminals process transactions offline, with no internet connection needed at the moment of payment.
How it works
- a person receives a smart card holding their biometric data;
- at a POS terminal they verify their identity and make a payment;
- the transaction goes through offline, with no connection at the moment of payment.
This approach solves two problems at once: it confirms the cardholder is the one paying, and it works where mobile networks are unreliable.
National infrastructure
The company describes a national switching and settlement system in Ghana built on its EDAPT technology. This is an infrastructure layer rather than a service for a single shop.
Who it suits
Such a solution can suit programmes that distribute payments in rural areas, for example benefits or subsidies. Biometrics reduce the risk of money reaching the wrong person.
Legal entity
Paycode Ghana LTD is listed in the Bank of Ghana register as a PSP Enhanced institution. Deployment terms are agreed for each project.
