Overview
PAY.JP is a payment gateway operating in the Japanese market. The service is run by PAY Inc. It suits online businesses that sell to Japanese buyers and want to accept payments through a local provider.
What a payment gateway does
A gateway sits between the merchant's website and the banks: it takes payment data, sends it for authorisation and returns the result. For a shop this means it does not have to connect to banks directly or store sensitive customer data.
Why a local provider matters
Japan has its own payment habits and its own merchant requirements. A local gateway knows these rules better and usually achieves higher approval rates than processing from abroad. For companies entering Japan this is one of the first questions to settle before sales begin.

Payment methods, pricing, payout timing and requirements for non-residents are not published in detail. Ask PAY.JP about them before integration, especially if the merchant's company is registered outside Japan.
