Overview
EFTPay is a payment facilitator (PayFac) operating in Hong Kong. The company onboards businesses as sub-merchants under its master account, so a merchant does not need to sign a separate agreement with an acquiring bank.
What a PayFac is
A payment facilitator registers with card schemes and an acquirer as an intermediary and vets the businesses it onboards itself. For a business this usually means:
- faster onboarding than with a direct bank agreement;
- a simpler set of documents;
- one provider responsible for both acceptance and settlement.
The flip side is that the facilitator sets its own risk monitoring rules and may hold payouts if it sees suspicious activity.
Who it suits
The model fits small and medium businesses in Hong Kong that need to start accepting payments quickly: retail stores, service companies and online projects. Large merchants with high volume sometimes do better with direct acquiring, but at the start a PayFac saves time.
What to ask
Payment methods, pricing, onboarding and payout times are not public. They are discussed when you apply.
Legal entity
The operator is EFT Payments (Asia) Limited, Hong Kong.
