Overview
Axepta BNP Paribas is a merchant acquiring service backed by the BNP Paribas banking group, integrated with payment terminals and e-commerce payment pages. The company lists 22 European countries and 11 currencies, and states that euro transactions cleared through national systems are credited on the next business day.
What is included
- merchant acquiring;
- point-of-sale terminals;
- e-commerce, with a Hosted Payment Page on which the shopper enters card details on the provider's secure page, so the store does not hold card data;
- multicurrency acquiring;
- developer documentation for connecting the payment page.
Fees and settlement
Merchants pay interchange, scheme fees and Axepta processing fees. A numerical rate is not published. Settlement of euro transactions on domestic systems is D+1 business day.
Why bank backing matters
When acquiring comes from a bank, settlement and account servicing sit within one institution. For mid-size and large companies this often matters more than onboarding speed: compliance checks are more predictable, and limits and volumes are easier to agree.
Who it suits
Retail chains and online stores in France, Germany and elsewhere in Europe that want to accept payments both in store and on the web with a single banking provider. The final terms are agreed with the bank when the contract is signed, based on turnover and sales format.
