Overview

Authorize.net is a payment gateway for online payments and recurring billing. It operates in the United States and Canada.

Methods

  • payment cards;
  • eCheck, an electronic check that debits the customer's bank account directly;
  • e-wallets.

Recurring billing charges customers automatically on a schedule, which suits subscriptions, membership dues and installment payments for services.

US pricing

There are two options:

  • all-in-one plan: USD 25 per month plus 2.9% + USD 0.30 per transaction, covering both the gateway and payment acceptance;
  • gateway only: USD 25 per month, USD 0.10 per transaction and a USD 0.10 daily batch fee, for businesses that already have their own merchant account.

At high volumes the gateway-only option with your own acquirer may be cheaper, since the percentage part is set by your bank agreement. For a small business the all-in-one plan is simpler to set up.

What to clarify

Canadian pricing, settlement timing and the legal entity are not published. Ask for them before onboarding.
