Operating accounts for payment companies

Every PSP, exchanger, P2P provider and online merchant needs somewhere to receive settlements, pay suppliers and hold working capital. Mainstream banks often decline these businesses or close accounts during de-risking reviews. This subsection lists banks and institutions that offer business accounts to payment-related companies, including accounts for non-residents and offshore structures.

Typical requirements

  • Company documents, shareholder and director KYC, UBO declarations.
  • A business plan or description of flows: who pays you, whom you pay, expected monthly turnover.
  • Source of funds and source of wealth for owners.
  • Licences or a legal opinion if the activity is regulated (see payment licensing).
  • Sometimes local substance: office, director or employees in the country.

Features to compare

  • Multi-currency: EUR, USD, GBP and local currencies in one account; FX margins.
  • Rails: SEPA and SEPA Instant, SWIFT with correspondent coverage, Faster Payments, ACH.
  • Virtual IBANs for segregating clients or merchants.
  • API access for automated payouts and reconciliation.
  • Fees: opening fee, monthly maintenance, per-transfer costs, minimum balance.
  • Card issuing for expenses or as a payout product.

Bank vs EMI for daily operations

An EMI is often quicker to open and better at instant payments; a bank offers wider correspondent reach, larger limits and credit products. If you work with crypto, check crypto-friendly banks first — many traditional banks restrict such flows.

By country

Popular locations include Lithuania, the UK, UAE, Hong Kong and Singapore. The account usually follows the company, so plan it together with company formation.

Account opening decisions belong to each institution. Check Offers for published conditions or post a request.
