What payment links are
A payment link is a URL that opens a hosted checkout for a specific amount or product. You create it in a dashboard or via API and send it by email, messenger, SMS or social media; the customer pays with whatever methods the provider supports — cards, wallets, bank transfer or local options like PIX. No website or shopping cart integration is required.
Typical use cases
- Social commerce and small sellers taking orders in Instagram, WhatsApp or Telegram.
- Invoices for services and B2B, where a link replaces bank details in a PDF.
- Call-centre and manual sales, collecting payment while the customer is on the phone.
- Recovery flows — resend a link after an abandoned checkout or failed charge.
Single-use vs reusable links
Single-use links are tied to one order and expire; reusable links work like a fixed-price button or a donation page. Some providers let customers enter the amount, add quantity, or save a card for later recurring payments.
Fees and risk
Fees usually match the provider's online card or local method pricing. Because links can be forwarded, risk teams pay attention to card-not-present fraud: 3-D Secure, velocity limits and order verification matter. In high-risk verticals, providers may restrict pay-by-link or require extra KYB on how links are distributed.
Choosing a payment link provider
- Methods available on the link page in your GEO — e.g. payment links in Brazil often need PIX and boleto, in the US cards and wallets.
- Branding, languages and currencies on the hosted page.
- API for generating links in bulk, webhooks and status tracking.
- Settlement speed and payout currency.
