About

The EPIF payment institutions federation, the European Payment Institutions Federation, is a Brussels-based non-profit that represents non-bank payment service providers across Europe. It was set up in June 2011 in response to the Payment Services Directive, and its members are payment institutions, e-money issuers and fintechs centred on payment services.

Latest position papers On 15 October 2026 EPIF published "Guiding Principles for Payments in Agentic Experiences" on AI-assisted commerce and secure payment frameworks. On 8 October it filed a submission to the MiCA review and sent a letter on the Cloud and AI Development Act, commenting on the implications of its Article 31. A cross-trade association letter on the digital euro followed on 28 May. Older papers include the updated position on PSD3 and PSR and a response to EBA guidelines on third-party risk management, both from October 2025.

What it offers EPIF acts as a forum for building common positions and engages with EU regulators, banks, merchants and consumer groups on standards.

PSP compliance and public-affairs teams can use the papers as a map of the sector's arguments on PSD3, crypto-assets and cloud outsourcing.
