Overview
Standard Chartered is an international bank whose digital-asset activity is aimed at eligible institutional clients, together with escrow and account-bank structures for cross-border deals.
Digital assets The bank provides regulated institutional crypto custody and deliverable Bitcoin and Ether spot trading, with settlement to the custodian chosen by the client. In September 2026 it expanded BTC/USD and ETH/USD spot trading through the DIFC; the UAE offering sits with Standard Chartered DIFC and is regulated by the DFSA. Trading pairs are quoted in USD. This service is institutional only and does not mean that crypto companies in general can open operating fiat accounts.
Escrow and account bank The bank builds bespoke escrow and account-bank structures to hold and distribute funds in international transactions. The main scenarios are M&A, project finance, royalties, sales and litigation settlements, with experience in Asia, Africa and the Middle East.
Who it suits Institutions that need regulated custody and spot execution in Bitcoin and Ether, and deal parties that need a bank to hold funds neutrally until conditions are met. Any firm in the crypto sector should ask about onboarding criteria for its own legal entity and business model.
