Overview

Axis Bank is an Indian bank that provides merchant acquiring and escrow services. For merchants it offers POS, QR, online acceptance, dynamic currency conversion (DCC) and reporting, and accepts Visa, Mastercard and RuPay cards.

Acquiring In its public API catalogue, the bank states that current gateway acquiring processing is handled by Cybersource and MPGS. This does not change the bank's declared role as an acquirer. API documentation for developers is published on the Axis Bank API portal.

Escrow Axis also acts as escrow agent for money and securities in local and cross-border corporate transactions. Scenarios include M&A, project finance, fintech payouts and trust-and-retention arrangements. Digital integration is supported through bank APIs. Fees are set on individual request, and the client must pass KYC and sign an escrow agreement.

Who it suits The acquiring products suit Indian retailers and e-commerce sites that want one bank for terminals, QR codes and online payments. The escrow service is relevant for deal participants and platforms that need a neutral holder of funds. Pricing for both lines is not published, so quotes should be requested from the bank.

Axis Bank online payment gateway For e-commerce, the Axis Bank payment gateway lets a website or app take card payments with the bank as acquirer, while the gateway layer runs on Cybersource or Mastercard Payment Gateway Services (MPGS). For a merchant this means one bank relationship for online payments, POS terminals and QR codes. When you apply, ask which integration fits your volume (hosted checkout or direct API), which methods besides cards are included, and how refunds and chargebacks are reported.
