Almost every payment business eventually needs a lawyer: to choose a jurisdiction, obtain a licence, set up a company and bank account, write AML policies or fight a frozen balance. This section lists {count} law firms, licensing consultants, corporate service providers and compliance specialists that work with PSPs, EMIs, exchangers, crypto companies and high-risk merchants.

Choosing a jurisdiction

There is no universally "cheapest" or "fastest" licence. Cost and timing depend on capital requirements, local substance (office, staff, resident directors), regulator workload and how complete your application is. A lower entry price can mean weaker access to banks and acquirers later. Ask advisers to compare at least: total first-year cost including capital and staff, ongoing compliance burden, passporting or market access, and how local banks and acquirers view the licence.

  • EU: Lithuania, Malta, Cyprus, Estonia, Poland, Czech Republic — EMI/PI licences and MiCA.
  • UK: FCA authorisation for payments and crypto registration.
  • UAE / Dubai, Hong Kong, Singapore — regional hubs with their own crypto and payment regimes.
  • North America: MSB registration in Canada, state-level money transmitter licences in the USA.
  • Gaming: Curaçao, Anjouan, Malta, Isle of Man, Kahnawake.

Country pages help narrow the choice: UK, UAE, Malta, Lithuania, Cyprus.
