Eligible customers are domestic corporations and Japan-incorporated subsidiaries or Japan branches of foreign companies, and the application is routed to the branch nearest the principal business office.

Application process The process starts with uploading corporate documents, followed by a web interview. The applicant then prints, signs and seals the paperwork and sends it by post. According to the bank's FAQ, the review can take about one to one and a half months, depending on workload, so companies should plan for a longer lead time than many fintech accounts require.

Who it suits The account fits businesses that already have a legal presence in Japan and need a bank account at one of the country's largest banks. Fees, account limits, currencies and the exact document list are not covered here, and a company should obtain them from the bank. Overseas companies without a Japanese entity or branch fall outside this route.
