Barclaycard payment acceptance is provided by Barclaycard Payments, a payment acceptance company wholly owned by Barclays Group (the business is also searched as Barclays merchant services). Its FAQ names Barclaycard Payments Limited as a merchant acquirer and explains that electronic money is used for settlement with merchants, not as a bank account.
What it offers
With Barclaycard payment acceptance, companies take card payments, with processing and settlement coming from a banking organisation rather than a small intermediary. Cards can be accepted at the point of sale and online, depending on the product chosen.
What bank acquiring offers
- settlement and servicing run through a bank group, which simplifies compliance and reporting;
- stability for high-volume businesses, since the bank is interested in a long-term relationship;
- a clear contract without a chain of intermediaries between the merchant and the card network.
The flip side is stricter selection: bank acquirers usually look more closely at the applicant's industry, track record and financials.
