Central Bank Payments Conference 2027

The Central Bank Payments Conference 2027, the 11th edition of the event organised by Currency Research, takes place in Bangkok on 15–17 March 2027. The theme is "Payments at a Crossroads – Sovereignty, Technology and the Changing Role of Central Banks".

The programme starts from the observation that AI, tokenisation, stablecoins and interconnected digital infrastructure are changing payments faster than the institutions around them, while geopolitical fragmentation is forcing a rethink of dependence on global networks and foreign-controlled platforms. Plenary sessions frame the strategic choices, and interactive tracks let delegates compare experience across jurisdictions. Through the CR Payments Research Partnership, supported by the Visa Economic Empowerment Institute, selected authors present original research on cross-border payments, digital money, fraud and scams, agentic AI and payments sovereignty.

Central bankers, regulators and payment system operators, as well as commercial banks, schemes and infrastructure providers working with them on instant payments, CBDC and stablecoin policy.
