WeChat Pay access for licensed payment institutions runs through UnionPay and NetsUnion. Tencent and Tenpay offer such organisations the ability to onboard merchants, integrate acceptance and handle settlement.
Scope of work - WeChat Pay acceptance; - acquiring by a licensed payment institution; - merchant onboarding; - reconciliation and settlement; - refunds.
Requirements Corporate registration, a financial licence and documentation for an authorised contact person are required. Foreign or unlicensed operators do not meet these criteria. This is standing institutional onboarding, not procurement of personal accounts or an order from a specific merchant.
Geography The programme operates in mainland China. Tracks for banks, developers and outsourcing contractors are separate. No transaction volume is stated: a provider's revenue depends on how many merchants it brings in and connects itself. For a licensed Chinese institution, this is a way to offer clients one of the most widely used payment methods in the country.
