UOB (United Overseas Bank) appears in two roles. In Hong Kong, United Overseas Bank Limited, Hong Kong Branch offers multi-party escrow, where the bank receives, holds and transfers funds as an independent party between buyer and seller. In Thailand, UOB provides merchant acquiring.
Escrow in Hong Kong The account can involve several participants and the main currencies; the list of currencies is agreed with the bank. Movements and daily reports are available through UOB Infinity. A fee is charged for each unique pay-in transaction file reference, and the amount is available on request.
Acquiring in Thailand Merchants can accept cards at the point of sale and online: - bank cards; - EDC terminals, the common term in Asia for in-store card terminals; - e-commerce acceptance on a website or in an app.
Funds reach the merchant the day after the transaction, which helps retail and restaurants with daily takings.
Who it suits Escrow suits deals where the parties want a bank to hold funds until conditions are met. Acquiring suits shops, restaurants, hotels and online sellers in Thailand that prefer settlement within one bank. Acquiring fees, terminal costs and merchant requirements are stated by the bank when it reviews the application.
