Resumen
PayPay is an e-wallet and merchant service in Japan. The main scenario is QR checkout: the shopper scans a code with a phone and pays from the wallet.
How QR checkout works
- The seller displays a QR code at the till, on a sticker or on a screen, or scans the code from the buyer's app.
- Funds are debited from the e-wallet balance.
- The seller needs no traditional card terminal — the code is enough.
For small shops, cafés and independent professionals, this is a simple way to take cashless payments without buying equipment.
The Japanese market
Japan long had a high share of cash, but QR wallets have noticeably sped up the shift to cashless. For businesses serving Japanese buyers, including domestic tourist traffic, supporting a popular local wallet helps avoid losing customers at the till.
