Moneybase is a Maltese payments company, operating as Moneybase Ltd (company C 87193) and licensed by the Malta Financial Services Authority as a financial institution under the Financial Institutions Act. Its official FAQ describes it as a payment institution.

Services The company offers personal and corporate payment accounts, business accounts, corporate cards, transfers, foreign exchange and an API. Cards run on the Mastercard network and are issued by Moorwand Ltd (FCA 900709). Investment services are provided by a separate company, Calamatta Cuschieri Investment Services, which sits in the same group.

Pricing According to the company, the business account starts from EUR 9.99 per month; plan terms on the current website should be checked before signing.

Protection of funds Client funds are held in segregated accounts with EU credit institutions. Moneybase also states that it carries additional safeguarding insurance from Lloyd's and Starr that covers a shortfall of up to EUR 5 million under the policy terms, which is not a promise of EUR 5 million to each client. The company does not take part in the Maltese deposit compensation scheme, and safeguarding is not the same as bank deposit insurance. Investment compensation does not cover all e-money balances.
